Day 1 : Heaton House Farm - Navigation Inn, Buxworth

Johns Notes

"Following the beautiful Dane Valley into the Peaks , calling at the moorland pub The Cat and Fiddle then over Shining Tor [great name] and along the high ridge above the Goyt Valley and down into the Hope Valley. A stunning first day. gig The Navigation Inn, Buxworth"

Walk Description

The opening day of the walking tour starts from Pool Hall, SJ945621, just down the road from the scene of the opening gig at Heaton House Farm, and heads steadily north over open land before picking up the River Dane at Gig Hall. We then follow the river and the Dane Valley Walk almost to the source before crossing the A54 and Whetstone Ridge for Lunch at the Cat and Fiddle about 1pm.

After a leisurely break and a chance for new walkers to join us we will be setting off across open moor to pick up the path to the first trig point of the tour on Shining Tor the highest point on day one. From here we turn our faces north and follow the ridge over Cats Tor past the car park at Pym Chair (another point to pick us) up perhaps before continuing north over Wingather Rocks before dropping down into Whaley Bridge via Taxel Moor. A series of local paths see us through the village along the river and onto the canal path to the Navigation for a pint and the evenings entertainment.
